With keyless entry system

1.Insert remote control in ignition slot.

NOTE: DO NOT depress brake or clutch pedal. 

2.Press start/stop button twice to switch ignition ON.
3.Repeatedly press button [B] until “Trip A” is displayed. 
4.Press start/stop button once to switch ignition OFF. 
5.Press and hold button [B].
6.Press start/stop button twice to switch ignition ON. 
7.Continue to hold button [B] for at least 5 seconds. 
8.Release button [B] as soon as display [C] is blank.
9.Display [C] indicates “000000” for 1 second and warning lamp [A] extinguishes. 
10.Odometer is displayed when reset complete.


Without keyless entry system

1.Switch ignition ON.
2.Repeatedly press button [B] 109099 until “Trip A” is displayed. 
3.Switch ignition OFF.
4.Press and hold button [B]. 
5.Switch ignition ON.
6.Continue to hold button [B] for at least 5 seconds.
7.Release button [B] as soon as display [C] 109099 is blank.
8.Display [C] indicates “000000” for 1 second and warning lamp [A] extinguishes. 
9.Odometer is displayed when reset complete.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

1.Trouble codes are displayed by the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
2.Late models: The ECM fault memory can also be checked using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector (DLC).

ACCESSING:

Normal mode

1.)Switch ignition ON.

2.)Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals E1 and TE1. SOHC: Fig. 1

3.)If no trouble codes are stored, the lamp will flash twice per second Fig. 3 .

4.)Each trouble code consists of two groups of one or more flashes Fig. 4 [A].

5.)Warning lamp flash duration: 0,5 second Fig. 4 [B].

6.)A 0,5 second pause separates each flash Fig. 4 [C].

11.)Trouble codes are repeated 4,5 seconds after last trouble code.

12.Count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.

13.)Remove bridge wire.
14.)Switch ignition OFF.
15.)Rectify faults as necessary.

Test mode – DOHC

1.)Switch ignition OFF.
2.)Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals E1 and TE2 Fig. 2 .

3.)Switch ignition ON.
4.)Ensure malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashes four times per second.
5.)Start engine.
6.)Drive vehicle at over 6 mph (10 km/h).
7.)Stop vehicle.
8.)Do not switch ignition OFF.
9.)With data link connector (DLC) terminals E1 and TE2 bridged, bridge terminals E1 and TE1 Fig. 2 .

10.)Count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.

11.)Switch ignition OFF.
11.)Remove bridge wires.

12.Rectify faults as necessary.

NOTE: Codes 42 and 43 may be produced if this procedure is NOT carried out correctly. Code 51 will be produced during this procedure and can be ignored.

Erasing

NOTE: Fuse removal duration depends on ambient temperature. The lower the temperature the longer the fuse must be removed.

1.)Switch ignition OFF.
2.)Remove EFI fuse (15A) from underbonnet fusebox for 10 seconds minimum.

3.)Refit fuse.

Trouble codes may also be erased by disconnecting battery leads.

WARNING: Disconnecting the battery may erase memory from electronic units (e.g. radio, clock).

Repeat checking procedure to ensure no data remains in ECM fault memory.
