Chevrolet Cruze 2016-2017 Oil Life Reset Guide

The redesigned Cruze possesses big-car qualities such as a comfortable ride and a quiet interior. The standard engine is an unobtrusive 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. A smooth start-stop feature reduces fuel use during idling; we got 30 mpg overall in our tests. The diesel model returned an impressive 41 mpg overall and an outstanding 60 mpg on the highway. A new infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay mirrors some of your smartphone icons on the screen. The rear seat is relatively roomy for the class, but the front seats are short on lower-back support. A variety of advanced active safety features are available, but only on the top-trim Premier version. A hatchback version is new for 2017.

Chevrolet Cruze 2008-2015 Oil Life Reset Guide

Chevrolet’s compact sedan feels solid and substantial. It has responsive handling, and the quiet interior and controlled ride make the Cruze feel like a larger car. The well-finished cabin feels spacious up front even for tall drivers, but there’s no mistaking the cramped backseat. The base 1.8-liter four-cylinder and the quieter, more refined uplevel 1.4-liter turbo got just 26-mpg, low for this class of car. An Eco trim is also available, but it improves overall fuel economy by just 1-mpg with the automatic. The diesel version got 33-mpg overall in our tests.

How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System

Reset the system whenever the engine oil is changed so that the system can calculate the next engine oil change. To reset the system:

1. Using the DIC MENU button and thumbwheel, scroll until you reach REMAINING OIL LIFE on the DIC (oil can symbol with % sign for Canada).2. Press the SET button to reset the oil life at 100%. When prompted, use the thumbwheel to highlight YES or NO. Press the SET/CLEAR button to confirm.
Be careful not to reset the oil life display accidentally at any time other than after the oil is changed. It cannot be reset accurately.

If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON DIC message or Code 82 DIC message comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
